Anti-aging for men: What can you do?
Younger looking skin has many benefits. You will feel better and people around you use your skin as an indication for your health.[1].
If you hear often that you look angry while you are not angry at all or that you look tired even though you had a good night's sleep, you can contemplate to do something about your skin and start using some anti-aging products for men.
Men's skin is different compared to women's skin and that explains why aging looks different for men and women. Men have a thicker dermis, the skin layer underneath the top layer. Women have a thicker epidermis, the top layer.
Generally speaking you can say that men's skin is about 40% thicker compared to women's skin. The hormone androgen also plays a bigger part for women compared to men when it comes to the aging of the skin[2].
We all know that our skin ages. There are external and internal factors that contribute to this. Your diet plays a key part in this, because it provides the building blocks for your skin.
But your skin is also exposed to the elements, like wind and UV-light. UV-light contributes most to skin aging, but also toxins and air pollution play a part.
There are multiple ways that your skin can age. It can lose its elasticity, which makes your skin a bit baggy. Another way is wrinkles. And in some cases your skin gets thicker and rougher, especially when it got damaged by sunlight.
Two ingredients are very important for younger looking skin: collagen and hyaluronic acid. Your skin produces these naturally, but when you get older the production deteriorates and that is when your skin starts aging. The collagen production deteriorates with about 1% a year.
So, what can you do to slow this process down or even reverse some of it?
A daily skincare routine
It is very important to cleanse and hydrate your skin on a daily basis to keep your skin in top condition.
There are plenty of moisturizers and eye serums that contain hyaluronic acid nowadays. Research done with women showed that wrinkles get 40% less deep when you apply a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid twice a day. The elasticity of the skin also improved with 55%[3]. It needs to be applied twice a day because of the half-life of hyaluronic acid.
Another important thing to take better care of your skin is the prevention of inflammations. You can do this by always applying a good sunblock when spending time in the sun. This helps to prevent skin damage by UV-light. Green tea contains polyphenols that protect your skin against UV exposure.
The Jack Black Double Duty Moisturizer has a SPF of 20, so it protects your skin against sunlight. It hydrates your skin and offers protections, so that is two birds with one stone.

Vitamins C, B3 and E are often added to moisturizers because they can penetrate your skin. When a moisturizer contains about 5-15% of vitamin C it helps the anti-aging process by stimulating the production of collagen. Vitamin A derivates have the same effect.
Vitamin B3 stimulates the skin cells metabolism and promotes cell renewal. When a cream contains about 5% vitamin B3 this also helps the anti-aging process.

Skincare and diet
Diet plays a very important role when it comes to anti-aging. Food with a lot of saturated fats or food with a lot of sugar do not provide your skin with good building blocks for better looking skin.
Researchers say that supplements or food that neutralizes free radicals is best to protect your skin. Berries and green vegetables like spinach and broccoli contain a lot of antioxidants.
Free radicals are basically half molecules that try to bind with other molecules and that is not beneficial for your skin. Vitamin C is one of the best known antioxidants that can neutralize free radicals. Vitamins A and E have similar capabilities.
Copper and selenium are also elements to help to keep your skin looking younger. Copper is important for the skin's pigmentation. A copper deficiency can lead to pale skin.
Vitamins and polyphenols are both important in the battle against free radicals. It is not only good for your skin, but plenty of other organs will thank you for a healthy diet.
Exfoliating and anti-aging
Exfoliating means that removal of dead skin cells. You can do that by using a scrub or peeling. During a peeling your skin will be nourished by healthy ingredients that can now penetrate your skin more easily because the top layer of dead skin cells has been removed. These are the same ingredients you find in moisturizers and other anti-aging products.
You only need to exfoliate our skin about 1-2 times a week. You should not overdo it.
We have plenty of great exfoliating products for men in our Moquer shop. Click here to have a look at these products in the shop!
Skin peeling
A skin peeling will remove one or more of the top skin layers. After a few weeks these layers will be restored naturally. Less deep peelings will increase to activation of the top skin layer.
A deep peeling has the effect that the top layer has to restore all the way again. This can have a great result when it heals nicely, but there is a risk of thicker skin, hyper pigmentation and infections. There are plenty of clinics that often these peelings, so make sure you are properly advised.
