5 Hairstyles for men with thick hair
On this Moquer blog you can find many blog posts about hairstyles but usually they are for men with thin hair, almost no hair or other hair types. Many men will be jealous of men with thick hair, but sometimes thick hair can be difficult as well.
Personally, I have very thick and coarse hair. Every time I go to a new hairdresser or barber than I get to hear how nice and thick my hair is. Generally speaking, it is great but sometimes when I wake up, I have a few strands of hair that I cannot style at all without showering first.
It is also a misconception that you cannot have thick hair when you have a receding hairline. I had a receding hairline until I chose to do a hair transplant, so I had a widow’s peak, but the rest of my hair was thick and coarse.
That is why this blog post is about hairstyles for men with thick hair. These hairstyles will primarily be focused on straight hair because there are already different blog posts about wavy, curly, and natural hair, so click on the orange-coloured words if you want to know more about those hair types.
1. Quiff
A quiff is a great hairstyle for men with thick hair that do not have a receding hairline. You can keep your sides and back a bit longer when opting for his haircut because that diminishes the chance that you wake up with annoying strands of hair that just stand up because of the thickness and coarseness of your hair.
A quiff hairstyle means that you style the front up and a bit back or to the side. That is why a straight hairline is good to have. Otherwise, your quiff will just fall down. It is a very stylish look for men with that are blessed with a full head of hair.

When you have thick and coarse hair as a man you need a product with a decent hold. I would recommend applying a good hair wax or hair clay with a high hold and matte (or semi-matte) finish. You can go for a shiny quiff, but it is better to keep it looking natural.
When you have thick hair though, you do not have to be scared of shiny products because you cannot look on your scalp easily considering the thickness and coarseness of your hair. When you have thin or fine hair that is different.

2. Bro flow
A bro flow is a bit longer hair for men. The hair is longer on top, and the hair goes behind the ears usually. It also works very well for men with wavy hair. Thick and coarse hair can be difficult when it is slightly longer than short, so a longer look works well. That in between phase can be annoying to deal with.
To prevent having to deal with that when you have thick hair you can go for the bro flow. Even when there is a strand of hair that is being difficult you will not notice it as much. Thick hair is usually easier to tame when it is longer, but you probably want to use a good conditioner to keep it healthy.

A little bit of shine does not hurt for this hairstyle for men with thick hair because you do not want your hair to look dull or dry. I would recommend picking a wax or paste with a medium hold and a medium to high shine. You could also try a hair cream with a bit more hold.
Blow-drying can be useful when you want to create more volume. You can use a sea salt spray or other pre styler to achieve this and to protect your thick hair against the heat of your blow dryer.

3. Scheiding
A side part or potentially a middle part also works well for men with thick and coarse hair. Also, for these hairstyles I would recommend going for a bit more shine. Especially the side part is basically an example of a slick look, just like the slick back.

When your hair is really coarse and relatively thick, you might want to style it when it is still a bit damp. So, right after showering, for example. You can best use a water-based pomade because it helps to stick the hairs together.
Another benefit of a water-based pomade is that it dries in your hair and locks your thick hair in place. You do not have to be afraid that your thick and coarse hair suddenly start to go their separate ways again. It is also a great hairstyle for more formal events.

4. Crew or Caesar Cut
I mentioned a few longer hairstyles, but two great hairstyles for men with thick hair that also work are the crew cut and Caesar cut. These looks are actually relatively short, but you do not have to be afraid that people can see your scalp when you have thick and potentially coarse hair.
These two hairstyles are similar, but a Caesar cut keeps the hair in the front a bit longer, like tiny bangs. It is very modern nowadays to wear your hair to the front (fringe) and it works very well for men with thick and coarse hair.

We are talking about pretty short hairstyles here, so it does not require a lot of styling. I would go for a matte wax, paste, or clay with a high hold to add some texture to your thick and coarse hair. It is best to not go for any shiny products because that just does not fit these looks well. Short hairstyles require texture, and you get that from natural and matte hair styling products.

5. Long hair
A final look I want to talk about when you have thick and coarse hair is actually growing your hair out. Your hair will become less coarse when it reaches a certain length. Even when it would be a little bit difficult, you cannot so easily see that compared to shorter hairstyles.
There are many options but when we talk about long hair it should reach your shoulders at least. When you have thick hair I would go for a hairstyle with a bit more texture, so when you actually have wavy hair, then this will look great on you.

Long, thick, and coarse hair does not need high hold products. It actually can prove difficult to distribute these kinds of products in thick and coarse hair. It is best to pick a nice hair cream or a wax with a medium hold and a medium to shiny finish.
When your thick hair has this kind of length you probably want to blow dry it after showering, so use a good conditioner and heat protectant products to take good care of your hair. Thick hair might be easier to manage when it is longer, but it requires more effort to keep it healthy.

Conclusion
Thick hair is generally speaking a blessing and you should be happy when you have a full head of hair as a man. But the downsize of thick hair can be that it is coarse and more difficult to manage. It is always best to work with your hair instead of working against it.
The length of your thick and coarse hair decides what you can do with it. The longer your hair is, the more flexibility it provides, but it does require more hair care. Short hairstyles work very well for men with thick hair, but once it starts to become a bit longer, you can enter the awkward phase and get difficult hairs and flyaway’s.
It is always smart to use the correct products to style your thicker hair and luckily, we have hundreds of hair styling products in the Moquer shop. Most of them will also work very well for thick and coarse hair!
